Marshall Scholarship Campus Application Instructions

Campus Application Instructions
Step 1: Register for and begin application:
a) www.marshallscholarship.org Read the advice, etc.
b) In addition, before applying for a 2011 Marshall Scholarship, candidates should review the
information on the Marshall Partnership Scholarships.
c) Complete and return the campus “Nomination Permission and Waiver Form” (available at
http://externalscholarships.lafayette.edu/scholarships/apply-through-lafayette/) to Dean
Goldberg, 105 Scott Hall.
Step 2: Work on the essays, and prepare a comprehensive, detailed resume/CV.
Complete essays and resume/CV” content of the application. Save to yourself and send
Dean Goldberg a copy off-line as WORD documents! The campus committee will work with
WORD documents only at this stage of the application. DO NOT SUBMIT application
materials through the Marshall Scholarship application manager at this time!!!!
Step 3: Ask for STRONG Letters of Recommendation. Recommendations are extremely important for the
success of your Marshall application!
You will need 4 letters of recommendation. Two of the 4 must be from faculty who are familiar
with your academic/intellectual potential and research abilities.
DO NOT register and submit the names of your recommenders using the Marshall application
program manager at this time.
Recommenders should email their letters of recommendation directly to Dean
Goldberg (goldb[email protected]) as WORD attachments by 7 September 2010.
o Letters may be DRAFT/Preliminary letters at this time as they are for the purposes of the
Campus Selection and Evaluation Committee.
Step 4: Obtain official transcripts from Lafayette and for all off-campus (non-Lafayette) coursework.
Provide Dean Goldberg with a hard copy (official) of your transcripts. If you studied abroad,
ask the Lafayette registrar to include a certified copy of your study abroad transcript.
Step 5: Submit the following materials to Dean Goldberg by 20 August:
Electronically submit as WORD or PDF attachments to externalscholarships@lafayette.edu:
1. Your University and Program Choice/s
2. A Comprehensive, detailed Resume/CV (may be 2+ pages)

3. The 3-4 Essays requested as part of the Marshall Scholarship application:
o A 1000 word Personal Statement
o A 500 word Proposed Academic Program
o A 250 word essay regarding your reasons for Choosing the UK
o A 250 word essay on your Post Scholarship Plan [for those applying for the 1
year Marshall]
4. Names of at least 4 Individuals who have agreed to write you STRONG letters of
recommendation
Submit as hard copies to 105 Scott Hall:
Official transcripts from all institutions attended
Signed copy of the Lafayette “Nomination Permission and Waiver Form”
